PDX STYLE OFF! We asked our fave 5 Portland designers to bring their own unique style to our 2017 Color Of The Year – Almost Ripe. These tastemakers will show you how to incorporate this bright backdrop into your own home.

Colorhouse 2017 Color of the Year: Almost Ripe, room designed by Woonwinkel

First up: Erica Essink and Kristin Van Buskirk from Woonwinkel.

Inspiration behind the design
In these cold winter months we’re thinking about ways to refresh our homes with color, print & pattern, and LIFE. An Almost Ripe accent wall is the perfect antidote to winter blues, as is a fresh new house plant in a Radial Vessel, a bold new throw by Happy Habitat (black and white) or Scholten & Baijings for Hay (orange).

Woonwinkel loves a clean, simple modern aesthetic–less is more–but minimal must also be comfortable! We love simple pleasures like a cozy rug or handcrafted wall hanging and enjoy having a friendly character around (Bank in the Form of a Pig).

Woonwinkel is a Portland, OR retail shop with home goods, furniture and gifts in a sunny scandinavian style and a focus on independent designers, handcrafted objects, and small companies with sustainable practices.

Owned by a color-loving duo, we’re a mecca of modern color. Erica Essink is the genius behind the buying and the one who’s made the shop known for it’s beautiful visual merchandising. She’s also the obsessive pinner behind the shop’s pinterest boards which they started only a few months ago to capture their color obsessions. She’s a mom and a former first grade teacher.

Kristin Van Buskirk (featured below) is a former color design director at Nike where she forecasted color trends, developed colors for the brand’s seasonal palette, and obsessed the details of how color is applied to product. Now she’s happily applying her color acumen at Woonwinkel, and may offer residential color consulting in the future. Kristin’s also a mom and her 5 year old son can occasionally be found at the shop happily ringing up customers. Woonwinkel means “living shop” in Dutch.
