We added some urban cool to this nursery using a rad stencil set from our friends at YouthfulNest. The Cityscape DIY Skyline Mural comes with 10 individual paper stencil buildings. You can use 1 or all of the buildings to create a unique urban skyline.

Step 1: Cut out the stencils along the dotted line. Position the variety of skyscraper cut outs on the wall and tack in place with blue painter’s tape. We did a little overlapping to create visual depth and interest.

Step 2: Carefully trace the outline of each building with a pencil and remove the template.

Step 3: Using blue painter’s tape, mask the outline of each building along the outer edge of the pencil line. This way the pencil line gets painted over and disappears. We used a utility knife to CAREFULLY cut the masking tape around the curved parts of the stencil outline. Like most projects, this one is a little more fun with a friend. ☺

Step 4: Apply 2 coats of your favorite Colorhouse hue to each building.

For this nursery, we layered a neutral combination of cool greys of METAL .03 + METAL .04 with chill blues WOOL .01 + WATER .02.

Step 5: Remove the tape right away. For adjoining or overlapping buildings, allow the paint to dry completely (2-4 hours) before gently masking the adjoining outlines. Apply two coats to those templates. Remove the tape immediately.

Step 6: Add one adorable Georgia (or baby of your choice) for a nursery with some awesome street cred.
Happy Painting!
